The End is the Beginning!
Conclusion: The end or finish of an event or process
Usually I don’t begin a blog post with a conclusion, but with all the crazy stuff going on around us, I thought I would end it on a high note, and not make you wait. So, in conclusion, I want to thank you all for giving us the opportunity to brighten up your lives through a bottle or more of wine. Over the past two months both Alexandra and I have spoken to so many of you. You have lifted our spirits by sharing your stories of how you are personally dealing with Covid-19. Your positive voices truly resonate and inspire us both.
Inspiration!
Talking about inspiration! We are just about to start putting our 2018 wines to tank and making our final tweaks to our blends. This process takes us about a week and then bottling begins June 1st. The 2018 vintage has created wines of elegance, finesse, intensity, and precision. That being said, they are Jeff Cohn wines so always expect them to be rich and concentrated.
Each of these wines has inspired me and three of them hold a special place in my heart. The Silver Eagle Syrah and the St. Peter’s Church Zinfandel, both farmed by Ulises Valdez (now his sons) and the Maggie’s Vineyard that I contracted with Kent Rosenblum. Both men were two of the finest people I have ever known. Each passed in 2018 (a week apart) and these wines are a tribute to them.
What is Happening in the Vineyards?
I have been to each vineyard numerous times during this growing season and working with each grower or vineyard manager to make sure the goals we set out for this year are being followed. At this point each of the vineyards is looking pretty balanced and I have a feeling cluster size with be smaller than last year, but it is still early. It could be the year for some of the changes that our growers have committed to incorporated into their vineyards.
Seeing that I started this blog with a conclusion, I guess I need to end it with the beginning, a concept or introduction. So, here we go!
