The minerality of this wine is up front and center, with red and black fruits intermingling, with clay and cinnamon stick in the higher tones of the aromatics that also start to showcase savory notes.
These notes follow through to the palate with a mix of red and black fruits, that are tight, persistent and pinpoint. This wine is elegant and has a lightness but the depth and richness are on full display.
A wine to decant now and enjoy or age.
Will age effortlessly in the Cohn Zone: drink now - 2039
It was important to me to make a special wine for my youngest daughter. She is an incredibly talented artist, incredibly smart, and loves adventure. She is also hardheaded and stubborn. She has a softer side and a harder side, so does this wine. One produces the elegance and finesse and the other, the structure and depth of this wine. Together, they are the perfect balance. Intensely dark ruby red purple in color, it will stain the glass as you swirl it. A true reflection of my Haley’s personality.
I started Jeff Cohn Cellars with the help of my mother, Iris. One adorns the label as a tribute to her.
Appellation: Rockpile
Vineyard: Rockpile, sustainably farmed, vines planted in 2000
I've been making Rockpile Syrah since 2001. There is a magnetic force in this vineyard that pulls you in, and you feel that something amazing will be produced. These wines are as close to Hermitage Rouge as you will get.

Vinification: 100% Syrah
The fruit is hand-picked then cold-soaked. I gently foot-stomp the fruit of which 30% is whole cluster, the rest is whole berry and de-stemmed. None is crushed. The wine goes through open-top, then 100% Malolactic fermentation and aged 18 months in large-format 80% new French oak and 20% neutral French oak barrels.

95 Wine Advocate, Lisa Perrotti-Brown —The 2015 Syrah Rockpile Vineyard is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with compelling scents of violets, wilted roses, kirsch and baking spices over a core of wild blueberries and black cherries with wafts of lavender, garrigue and wild thyme. Full-bodied, opulent and possessing a myriad of floral and spicy sparks in the black-fruited mouth, it has a beautiful plush texture and wonderful freshness, finishing very long.
92 Jeb Dunnuck —The 2015 Syrah Rockpile Vineyard doesn't have the same singular character as the other Syrahs from this site, yet still offers a beautiful, pure, elegant style that's loaded with charm. Black and blue fruits, violets, crushed rocks, and some marine-like salinity all flow to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, elegant Syrah that has present tannin, good acidity, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming decade or more.
