The color of this wine reminds me of the saying: It's always darkest just before the dawn. I can tell you the moment before the dawn can’t even come close to how opaque this wine is.
Aromatically this wine covers the gamut from blackberry pie filling, lavender, wild herbs and even a hint of stone fruit one could spend at least 10 minutes just looking at the color and partaking of the aromatics. This wine is the Full Monty from the first sip, to the end of the glass. Blackberry, black currant, salted black licorice, and air-dried beef. This wine is screaming for a cool winter's night and a crackling fire.

Simply put, it is one of my favorite varietals. Always deep, dark, and inky. This one comes from a 55° slope vineyard that is incredibly rocky and makes the vines work that much harder. I love this particular petite because the nose always is about black fruits and floral aromas, but what intrigues me is the hint of peach and apricot in both the aromatics and taste.
The palate is like a mystery novel. You never know which way it will turn!
I started Jeff Cohn Cellars with the help of my mother, Iris. One adorns the label as a tribute to her.
Appellation: Russian River Valley
Vineyard: Landy Sweetwater Springs, Sustainably Farmed, planted in 2004
Ranging from 300 to 1000 ft. in elevation, the lower elevations are exposed to the cooling influence of the fog, while the hillside fruit gets more than its fair share of sun exposure.

The fruit is hand-picked then cold-soaked. I gently foot-stomp the fruit of which 10% is whole cluster, the rest is whole berry and de-stemmed. None is crushed. The wine goes through open-top, then 100% Malolactic fermentation and aged 18 months in 60% new large-format new French oak and 40% neutral French oak barrels.

93 Jeb Dunnuck — Jeff Cohn Cellars Petite Sirah Sweetwater Springs Vineyard Sweetwater Springs Vineyard has a dense core of blue and black fruit as well as plenty of scorched earth, graphite, and violet aromatics. With medium to full body, rock-solid balance, and the more focused, straight style of the vintage, drink it over the coming decade.
92 The Wine Advocate, Erin Brooks — The 2017 Petite Sirah Landy Sweetwater Springs Vineyard has bombastic aromas of lilac, cassis and Luxardo cherries with notes of charcuterie, vanilla, dried thyme and potting soil. The palate is full-bodied and dense with a chewy frame and good juiciness, finishing warm. This may open up with a bit more time in bottle.
92 Wine Enthusiast, Virginie Boone — Jet-black in color and thick in tannin, this vineyard-designate offers bold, integrated layers of lavender, plum and gamy meat. Leather and black pepper season the core of big fruit and integrated, grippy texture.
