Deep scarlet red with shades of purple. Aromas of black cherry, hot cinnamon stick, slightly gamy with dried Herbs de Provence, dark chocolate nibs and rose petal. A voluptuous mouthfeel that is oozing with red and blue fruits and layered in silky mix of savory and sweet fruit plus minerality that carries the wine to a long finish. This wine is as sensual as they come; yes, it is Pure Yum!

This started as a chance to play with some Syrah and Grenache that did not quite fit into vineyard designate blends that I was making. The goal was to make a wine that just was Pure Yum. So I started tinkering, making some magic, and I fell in love with this blend. Then, wine writers fell in love with the blend, and most importantly you, our club members, tasting room guests, and fans alike did too. You love it so I'll make more.
I started Jeff Cohn Cellars with the help of my mother, Iris. One adorns the label as a tribute to her.

The fruit is hand-picked then cold-soaked. I gently foot-stomp the fruit of which 30% is whole cluster, the rest is whole berry and de-stemmed. None is crushed. The wine goes through open-top, then 100% Malolactic fermentation and aged 18 months in large-format 100% neutral French oak barrels.

94 Wine Advocate, Erin Brooks — The 2018 Pure Yum is a blend of 67% Syrah and 33% Grenache from the Rockpile and El Diablo vineyards. It was made with 30% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 100% neutral French oak. Medium ruby, it has seductive aromas of red and black cherries, tobacco leaves, red flowers and graphite. The medium-bodied palate is silky, fresh and mineral-driven, with savory, graphite-laced character and a long finish.
93 Jeb Dunnuck — The 2018 Syrah Pure Yum is mostly Syrah but includes one-third Grenache. It's a year-in, year-out winner, and the 2018 doesn't disappoint with its spicy, pepper, classic dark fruited, gamey Syrah aromas and flavors. Reminding me of a terrific Gigondas with its cedary spice and savory characteristics, it's medium to full-bodied, has a round, seamless texture, beautiful depth of fruit, and a great finish.
90 Connoisseurs' Guide to CA Wine — Mildly meaty and graced with a light bit of spice but principally focused on ripe berries and plums, this moderately full-bodied mix of Syrah and Grenache conveys a good sense of fruity heft with enlivening acidity lending brightness and well-measured tannins providing a nice bit of grip. It is not too edgy or astringent to dissuade drinking in the near term, but it will clearly benefit from time in the cellar. It should round into its best some three or four years down the line and is sure to keep nicely for at least as many more.
