A touch of a cooler year in the Russian River has provided us with a Petite Sirah that, reminds me more of blend of Cornas and Côte Rôtie. Its purple, black color has hints of dark ruby on the rim. If you’re into blackberry pie filling in a perfectly baked pie shell, this wine is for you. Mixed in are subtle hints of dried apricots and peaches and savory notes that adds an extra dimension to the aromatics.
A full-bodied wine with a sweet silky mouthfeel and just enough minerality and structure to carry this wine. The flavors are true reflection of the aromatics with a touch of Australian black licorice weaving through the wine from the midpalate to the lengthy finish.

Simply put, it is one of my favorite varietals. Always deep, dark, and inky. This one comes from a 55° slope vineyard that is incredibly rocky and makes the vines work that much harder. I love this particular petite because the nose always is about black fruits and floral aromas, but what intrigues me is the hint of peach and apricot in both the aromatics and taste.
The palate is like a mystery novel. You never know which way it will turn!
I started Jeff Cohn Cellars with the help of my mother, Iris. One adorns the label as a tribute to her.
Appellation: Russian River Valley
Vineyard: Landy Sweetwater Springs, Sustainably Farmed, planted in 2004
Ranging from 300 to 1000 ft. in elevation, the lower elevations are exposed to the cooling influence of the fog, while the hillside fruit gets more than its fair share of sun exposure.

95 Jeb Dunnuck —The dense purple-hued 2018 Petite Sirah Sweetwater Springs Vineyard is a beauty, offering a monster bouquet of blueberry and mulberry fruits that gives way to more peppery herbs, graphite, exotic flowers, and blood orange-like nuances. It's rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, yet it stays light on its feet, has integrated acidity, and a great finish. This exotic, complex, complete beauty will evolve for 15+ years.
95 Wine Advocate, Erin Brooks — The 2018 Petite Sirah Sweetwater Springs Vineyard has an opaque ruby color and broody, seductive aromas of cassis and purple flowers, with notes of cast iron and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with surprising freshness and elegance for a 100% Petite Sirah, and it finishes with mineral and floral perfume. This was made with 10% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 100% new oak foudres.
