This 2008 is deep, dark and loaded with personality. Almost like a concentrated version of black cherry, boysenberry and wild raspberry preserves that have the essence of roasted wild herbs and cracked red, green and black pepper ground on top.
As much as I thought 2007 was the blowout wine for this vineyard, I am going to say the 2008 is just a touch richer and more approachable, not to say it doesn’t have the stuffing to age. Ventana is one of my favorite wines to age. The complexities that come around are those only found when fruit is grown in cool climates and allowed to express themselves with time in the bottle.
Planted in 1974, the historic Ventana Vineyard is a 300 acre, SIP® Certified Vineyard in Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco AVA. As multi-generational farmers, their commitment is to do what is best for the land, which you can taste in the wine.
The perfect companion to smoked salmon with Herbs de Provence. While young pairs great with poultry especially wild game fowl. As it ages, goes well with aged goat cheeses or lamb’s milk cheese.
